CU05: US 29

CU05 Overview Map

Dumfries Road TO Comfort Inn Drive

Survey

The survey regarding potential transportation safety and operations improvements along Route 15/29 (Lee Hwy.) between Dumfries Rd. and Comfort Inn Dr. is complete.

Project Purpose

The purpose of this study will be to analyze the operational and safety issues identified along US 29 between Dumfries Road and Comfort Inn Drive. The segment between Cedar Run Drive and Dumfries Road has been identified as a Potential for Safety Improvement (PSI). Significant congestion has been observed at the intersection of US 29 and Dumfries Road on US 29 with back-ups impacting upstream intersections. As well, the existing Park and Ride lot on Colonial Road is undergoing expansion. There are no existing bike/ped facilities that connect nearby neighborhoods which may otherwise reduce vehicular trips.

The study goal will be to identify innovative cost-effective solutions that will improve the safety and operations of the US 29 network between Comfort Inn Drive and Dumfries Road. The study team will also evaluate options to connect the Park and Ride lot to nearby locations, as well as opportunities to connect to the trail alignments on the east side of US 29. The study team will ensure that improvements are consistent with County Comprehensive plans and contextually sensitive.
