Dumfries Road to Comfort Inn Drive
Project Purpose
The purpose of this study will be to analyze the operational and safety issues identified along Route 15/29 (Lee Highway) between Dumfries Road and Comfort Inn Drive. The segment between Cedar Run Drive and Dumfries Road has been identified as a Potential for Safety Improvement. Significant congestion has been observed at the intersection of Route 15/29 and Dumfries Road on Route 15/29 with back-ups impacting upstream intersections. The existing Park and Ride lot on Colonial Road is also undergoing expansion. There are no existing bicycle/pedestrian facilities that connect nearby neighborhoods which may otherwise reduce vehicular trips.
The goal of the study will be to identify innovative cost-effective solutions that will improve the safety and operations of the Route 15/29 network between Comfort Inn Drive and Dumfries Road. The study team will also evaluate options to connect the Park and Ride lot to nearby locations, as well as opportunities to connect to the trail alignments on the east side of Route 15/29. The study team will ensure that improvements are consistent with the County's comprehensive plans and contextually sensitive.
