Project Purpose

The purpose of this study is to identify project recommendations for the Peppers Ferry Road (Route 114) corridor within Montgomery County. This study will focus on improving roadway safety. The project recommendations from this study may be developed into funding applications for SMART SCALE Round 6 and other transportation funding programs.

Intersection Improvements 

Peppers Ferry Road at Onyx Drive

  • A 100-foot left-turn lane is proposed along westbound Peppers Ferry Road at Onyx Drive to provide a place for left-turning vehicles to wait to find a gap in opposing traffic and improve safety by reducing the potential for rear-end crashes.

Peppers Ferry Road at Coal Hollow Road and Vicker Switch Road (West)

  • A 100-foot left-turn lane is proposed along eastbound Peppers Ferry Road at Coal Hollow Road, and the intersection is proposed to be reconfigured to provide one turning location from Peppers Ferry Road. The left-turn lane will provide a place for left-turning vehicles to wait to find a gap in opposing traffic and improve safety by reducing the potential for rear-end crashes.
  • A 100-foot left-turn lane is proposed along westbound Peppers Ferry Road at Vicker Switch Road (West), and the intersection is proposed to be reconfigured to provide one turning location from Peppers Ferry Road. The left-turn lane will provide a place for left-turning vehicles to wait to find a gap in opposing traffic and improve safety by reducing the potential for rear-end crashes.

Pedestrian Improvements 

Peppers Ferry Road from Belview Drive to Coal Hollow Road - Pedestrian Improvements

  • A sidewalk is proposed along Peppers Ferry Road from Belview Drive to Coal Hollow Road.
  • A pedestrian crosswalk is proposed across Peppers Ferry Road between Belview Drive and Belview Elementary School. Rectangular rapid flashing beacons that will be activated by pushbuttons are proposed along eastbound and westbound Peppers Ferry Road at the pedestrian crossing. An additional flashing warning light is proposed along the westbound Peppers Ferry Road approach to the crosswalk to provide additional warning to motorists of pedestrians crossing the street.
